APRIL 24, 2019: Nico Muhly writes an appreciation of 'YOU SHOULD BE DANCIN’’ & the rest of the EP trilogy

The composer Nico Muhly wrote a mini-essay about my recent trio of EPs. You can read the whole thing over at Brassland. But here's a taste...

“And, finally, that’s what makes Baby Dayliner so special: unlike most of the music made in the history of the world, his work sticks with you. What do I think the point of this music is? It’s a thing I mentioned earlier: we should be dancing, and he’s going to sit and watch us do it.”

August 29, 2018: Aesop Rock writes an appreciation of 'Key Largo'

Aesop Rock (aka Ian Bavitz) wrote a mini-essay about my new EP. You can read the whole thing over at Brassland. But here's a taste...

"Few things excite me as a music fan like new Baby Dayliner songs... From the tangible croon, to the romantic wordage, to the contagious groove, his music grabs your guts and ushers you off into some gigantic, secret party where everyone is simultaneously falling in love and breaking up.  Each piece feels almost immune to deconstruction — everything is where it's meant to be."

Thanks Ian, my old New York City chum!

June 22, 2017: surface noise podcast

Surface Noise podcast featured Baby Dayliner on their latest episode. Check it all out here or listen below. Also on the episode is Matt Berninger of The National and El Vy. Thx Matt for your memories of Dayliner past!

10 years after quitting the music business, Brooklyn pop artist Baby Dayliner is finally ready to come back. With a new EP set for release in July, Baby Dayliner (aka Ethan Marunas) joins Surface Noise to talk about why he left the biz, the inner pull that brought him back, and how he turned online dating misadventures into dope music. Before we hear from Baby D, we thought it was only right to first speak with one of his biggest fans: The National’s Matt Berninger. Matt joins us to discuss how Baby Dayliner’s unique live shows shaped his experience in the now legendary mid-2000s Brooklyn music scene that spawned bands like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Interpol and the Strokes. It’s rare to hear artists talk so affectionately about other artists, so we are extra excited to share this with you. Listen to more episodes of Surface Noise at www.surfacenoisepod.com.
